It was my first time visiting the restaurant. If they had opened in Singapore 20 years ago, I might have appreciated it more and been happier to dine there. However, the food was average or even below the standard of other typical Japanese restaurants in Singapore.
Very mid oyako-don, tastes like what you can get from your void deck Japanese hawker. Kaarage is also nothing to shout about too. I’ve had this in Nagoya before and this is worlds apart. Manage your expectations and you’ll be fine.
I ordered cha siew ramen and daughter order oyakodon. Ramen must eat hot, if cool already you'll see the thick chunk of oil layering.
Service was good.
Oyako don tasted charred. Service staff was not friendly and felt like they were frustrated. Terrible experience. The extra noodle was just additional dry noodle you added to whatever soup you had remaining. Not exactly the best place to fill your stomach
The Japanese food here is decent but feels more like food court quality with restaurant-level pricing. Service was a bit slow during my visit.
Some dishes could be improved — for example, the chicken in the Donburi tasted like it had been previously frozen and the rice wasn’t cooked well. The yakitori chicken was better in comparison, though. Miso soup was quite bland.
The dining space is a little cramped with narrow spacing between tables. I am not coming back to dine here.
I had high hopes for Tori Sanwa, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. The only consistently enjoyable items were the egg and rice—simple, but well done.
The chicken was tender, but I couldn't shake the suspicion that it might have been slightly undercooked, which made it difficult to enjoy fully. The grilled fish lacked the crispiness I was expecting and felt under-fried, leaving the texture a bit off. As for the pork, it was dry and tough, almost as if it had been reheated multiple times.
While the presentation was nice, I hope the kitchen takes a closer look at preparation and consistency. There's potential here, but more care is definitely needed in execution.
We had a lovely time here, the food was tasty, and my husband enjoyed the braised dishes a lot. I really enjoyed the Moon Moon fried rice, and the mango pudding dessert. The service staff from Taiwan was very friendly and hospitable.
