Laboratory Services Senior Executive [West / Uni / Perm]

We are seeking a proactive and resourceful Senior Executive, Laboratory Services to oversee the management and operational excellence of our laboratory facilities. This role provides essential scientific guidance and administrative support to all stakeholders, ensuring staff and students are equipped with the vital skills and knowledge to create intellectual value. You will play a key role in bridging the gap between research and the marketplace by maintaining a world-class facility environment.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Guidance & Expertise

• Provide expert advice and consultancy on materials characterization techniques to support research and teaching activities.
• Design and deliver short courses or workshops for staff, students, and industry partners.
• Partner with researchers on projects and conduct hands-on sample characterization using lab equipment.
• Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with trends in materials characterization.

Technical Support & Equipment Maintenance

• Conduct equipment training and offer technical assistance on operation, safety, and best lab practices.
• Perform routine equipment inspection, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate repairs, implement corrective actions, and optimize lab procedures.
• Review and improve training materials for all stakeholders.

Administrative & Operational Support

• Ensure safety, cleanliness, and organization of laboratory spaces.
• Manage laboratory consumables, spare parts, budgeting, purchasing, and record-keeping.
• Liaise with vendors for service, maintenance, and procurement.
• Maintain documentation of SOPs, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), Risk Assessments (RAs), and contractor management.

Health, Safety & Environmental Support

• Conduct routine safety inspections and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Check safety equipment (eyewash stations, emergency showers, spill kits, first-aid kits, fire extinguishers).
• Follow up on non-compliance findings and support research labs with fault reporting, asset write-offs, and facility requests.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Process, Applied Science, or equivalent, with at least 2 years of laboratory experience.
• Technical expertise in operating and maintaining scientific equipment (TGA/DSC/SDT/DIL/LFA, vapor deposition systems, 3D printers, furnaces, etc.) and managing lab inventories.
• Proficiency in laboratory management, including writing SOPs, conducting risk assessments, and maintaining high safety standards.
