Cloud Operations Engineer

- Remuneration: Up to $10,000 + AWS
We are looking for a Platform Operations Engineer who will be responsible for maintaining and supporting critical on-premises platforms and infrastructure. This role focuses on ensuring platform reliability, adopting modern operational practices, and contributing to infrastructure modernisation initiatives while continuing to support existing enterprise systems. You will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to maintain the stability, performance, and efficiency of essential IT platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support core infrastructure platforms, including compute, storage, virtualisation, and related systems across development, staging, and production environments.
- Follow established platform standards and implement automation and modern operational practices to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
- Support platform improvement initiatives and assist in implementing new infrastructure solutions while aligning with enterprise architecture standards.
- Manage virtualisation environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), including capacity monitoring, performance optimisation, and lifecycle management.
- Implement and maintain monitoring and observability solutions for platform components using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack.
- Execute platform patching and maintenance strategies, leveraging automation where possible to maintain security and system stability while minimising service disruption.
- Provide L2/L3 technical support for platform-related incidents, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
- Support containerisation initiatives and maintain container orchestration platforms where applicable.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
- Manage backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions for critical infrastructure components.
- Implement security controls such as access management, system hardening, and compliance monitoring.
- Collaborate with application teams to ensure platform stability, scalability, and performance requirements are met.
- Develop and maintain platform documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Support team members in platform operations and modern infrastructure practices.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- Experience with enterprise virtualisation platforms such as VMware vSphere or Hyper-V
- Knowledge of storage technologies (SAN, NAS) and enterprise backup solutions
- Strong experience in Linux and Windows Server administration
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
- Experience with container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability platforms
- Understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts and practices
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals and technologies
- Scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, or Bash
- Experience implementing high-availability and disaster recovery solutions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
- Experience working in infrastructure engineering or operations roles
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure environments
- Exposure to infrastructure modernisation or transformation initiatives
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
